START WITH ONE CONVERSATION
What you’ll practise
You cannot choose someone else’s response. You can practise how you raise a concern, ask a question, and decide on your next step.
Say what matters
Choose one manageable issue and explain it without turning a concern into an accusation.
Make room for an answer
Ask useful questions, check your assumptions, and hear what the other person actually means.
Hold a clear boundary
Make or decline a request, handle disagreement, and recognize when to pause a conversation.
Make the next step concrete
Repair a mistake, share everyday responsibilities, and turn a vague agreement into a specific plan.

Begin with the foundations, then apply them to the situations that matter to you.
- 1. Choose the conversation you can actually have
- 2. Prepare without building a prosecution
- 3. Make room for a real answer
- 4. Say the difficult thing plainly
- 5. Listen until something becomes clearer
- 6. Disagree and keep your boundaries
- 7. Negotiate the everyday load
- 8. Speak across family expectations
- 9. Repair what you actually did
- 10. When the conversation stalls
- 11. Use messages and groups deliberately
- 12. Make the next step visible
Six mixed practice labs, answer guidance, copyable conversation tools, and eight research notes help you revisit what you’ve learned.
A SIMPLE WAY TO USE THE COURSE
Read. Try. Revisit.
Read or listen
Start with the first four chapters, then continue in order or choose a situation that feels familiar.
Try it yourself
Pause for the exercises. Write or say your own response before checking the answer guidance.
Return to one skill
Change one sentence, try again, and revisit it when a suitable everyday conversation comes up.
A SHORT EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK
A small change you can try today
Think of a manageable concern. Complete this sentence privately:
“The specific thing I would like us to discuss is ______.”
If your answer is “your attitude,” “our whole relationship,” or “why you never care,” narrow it. What happened? What needs to work differently? You might write: “How we decide whether guests can stay overnight,” or “What to do when one of us needs to cancel a plan.”
You have not solved the problem. You have made it possible to begin a conversation about something identifiable.
